Commending and thanking Alderperson Syed Abbas for his dedicated and conscientious service during his tenure as Common Council Vice President.

Body

WHEREAS, Alderperson Syed Abbas was elected by his peers to the office of Vice President of the Madison Common Council on April 21, 2020, for the term of 2020-2021; and

WHEREAS Alderperson Syed Abbas provided invaluable support and advice to Council President Sheri Carter; and

WHEREAS, Alderperson Syed Abbas met bi-weekly with Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, her staff and Common Council President Carter to discuss city issues; and

WHEREAS, during his term as Common Council Vice President, Alderperson Abbas served as vice chair of the Common Council Executive Committee and served on the President’s Work Group to Review and Revise the Chief of Staff Position; Public Market Development Committee; Sustainable Madison Committee; Warner Park Community Recreation Center Advisory Subcommittee; and Urban Design Commission; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as Common Council Vice President, Alderperson Abbas worked with Mayor Rhodes-Conway and Common Council President Carter on COVID-19 plans, and issues around environmental justice and sustainability and effectively advocated for the Common Council; and

WHEREAS, Alderperson Abbas has met the demands of his additional duties with committed and dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Alderperson Abbas fulfilled his duties as Common Council Vice President while ably representing and responding to his 12^th District constituents’ concerns and issues;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and members of the Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Syed Abbas for his dedicated and conscientious service during his tenure as Vice President of the Madison Common Council.
