Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes Traffic Engineering to take the necessary steps to implement the improvements on the Proposed Vision Zero 2020 Project List. Estimated cost is $250,000. The 2020 Adopted Capital Budget includes $350,000 in Traffic Engineering's budget to fund these projects. At this time, no additional appropriation in 2020 is anticipated.

Approving the Proposed Vision Zero 2020 Project List
Body
WHEREAS, the growth and resiliency of the City requires safe and reliable transportation systems; and,
WHEREAS, the life and health of our city’s residents is our utmost priority; and,
WHEREAS, crashes that result in death or serious injury are not inevitable but largely preventable and stem in part from human inattention and designs that are ineffective in accommodating multimodal uses in urban environments; and,
WHEREAS, the Vision Zero Traffic Safety Project provides funds for projects including signing, pavement marking, geometric changes and other safety improvements that will reduce the severity and frequency of crashes; and,
WHEREAS, the Transportation Commission has reviewed the proposed improvements on the Draft Vision Zero 2020 Project List and generally supported the improvements,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby approves the Proposed Vision Zero 2020 Project List and authorizes Traffic Engineering Division to necessary steps to implement the proposed improvements; and,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Transportation Department will consider Metro Transit’s operation and performance as it implements Vision Zero initiatives and implement mitigation measures as possible.
