Title
Recognizing that September 2020 was “National African Immigrant Heritage Month”.
Body
WHEREAS, National African Immigrant Heritage Month was one of enormous pride for Africans living in the Madison and,
WHEREAS, the community of African immigrant heritage is a diverse population comprised of more than 54 countries and more than 500 dialects; and,
WHEREAS, Madison recognizes the significance of the African community playing an important role in our city's economy, culture and society; and,
WHEREAS, raising awareness about Madison’s African immigrant heritage is crucial in effectively fighting disparities within the greater Black population and is essential to building a stronger Madison community; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council encourage all Madisonians to recognize and applaud the many contributions made by our African immigrant community in enhancing the quality of life in our city,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council recognized September 1, 2020, through September 30, 2020, as National African Immigrant Heritage Month in the City of Madison.
