Recognizing and celebrating Dane Dances! 20th Anniversary.
Body
WHEREAS, for 20 years Dane Dances! has brought our community together in jubilation and celebration; and,
WHEREAS, Dane Dances! was founded in 1999, in partnership with the City of Madison, Sun Prairie and Dane County; and,
WHEREAS, Dane Dances! was a recommendation of a City of Madison Task Force on Race Relations, a Common Council resolution to bring multi-cultural dance events to Monona Terrace, and dedicated citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the event was founded by Peter Anderson and has grown recently under the leadership and guidance of Dane Dances! Board President Al Cooper; and,
WHEREAS, today more than 235,000 people have attended Dane Dances! and hundreds of generous volunteers have donated their time to organize and support this free, public event; and,
WHEREAS, Dane Dances! is a fun and welcoming environment that brings people together and cultivates and strengthens relationships through music and dance; and,
WHEREAS, this atmosphere helps bridge cultural divides and unites us as a community; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison loves to “Get up… Get Down… Get Together”,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Madison and the Madison Common Council do hereby recognize and commend Dane Dances! for 20 years creating an inclusive, vibrant, and joyful experience for our community.
