Recognizing and commending Christine Beatty for her professional and personal dedication to the City of Madison, and congratulating her on the occasion of her retirement.
Body
WHEREAS, Christine Beatty is retiring from the City of Madison on January 4, 2019, after dedicating 40 years of her life to helping improve and enrich the lives of older adults in Madison and Dane County, and
WHEREAS, Christine began her career working on behalf of older adults in 1977 as a program coordinator with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program before becoming the Executive Director of the East Madison/Monona Coalition of Aging, a local non-profit organization and, in 1988, being named Director of the Madison Senior Center; and,
WHEREAS, Christine served the City of Madison and its older adult population in that capacity for 30 years, recruiting, mentoring and leading a team of talented and dedicated staff and volunteers to work alongside her; and,
WHEREAS, under Christine’s leadership, the Madison Senior Center, in 1999, became the first center in Wisconsin to secure national accreditation (and was re-accredited in 2004 and 2011), a distinction, earned by only 170 centers nation-wide, that recognizes the highest level of performance; and,
WHEREAS, Christine played a lead role in establishing a 501(c)(3) non-profit Madison Senior Center Foundation, in 2005, to raise funds for senior adult programs and activities offered at the Center; and
WHEREAS, Christine’s efforts have contributed to changing how our community perceives aging, particularly by drawing greater attention to and utilizing the wealth of talents and energy that older adults possess in ways that add value to the community; and
WHEREAS, under Christine’s leadership, the City has revamped its senior services and programs, placing greater emphasis on activities designed to maintain or improve health and that are intellectually and physically challenging; and,
