Honoring Connie Phair, Matt Phair and Alec Lewis for their Lifesaving Efforts on August 20, 2018.
Body
WHEREAS, on Monday, August 20, 2018, while riding their bikes surveying the damage caused by an extreme heavy rainstorm event, Connie and Matt Phair noticed a vehicle in a culvert near Chapel Hill and Regis Roads; and,
WHEREAS, Matt and resident, Alec Lewis, were able to rescue two of the passengers from the dangerous waters, Mary Georgeff and Bruce Chapin; and,
WHEREAS, the driver, James Sewell, tragically lost his life in the event; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council join the Phairs and Mr. Lewis in grieving the loss of James Sewell in that incident,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that that the Mayor of the City of Madison and the Madison Common Council extend great gratitude to Connie Phair, Matt Phair and Alec Lewis for their selfless and heroic actions on August 20, 2018.
