Proclaiming April 2018 as “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in the City of Madison.

Body

WHEREAS, child abuse is a complex and ongoing problem in our society, affecting great numbers of children in City of Madison; and,

 

WHEREAS, every child is entitled to be loved, cared for, nurtured, and secure and to be free from verbal abuse, sexual abuse, emotional and physical abuse and neglect; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2016 there were 5,705 reported cases of child abuse or neglect in Dane County alone, and;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Madison has dedicated individuals and organizations who work daily to counter the problem of child abuse and neglect to help parents obtain the assistance they need; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Dane County Child Abuse & Neglect Coordinated Community Response Task Force encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Dane County and the City of Madison a better place for children and families by ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, by promoting children's social and emotional wellbeing and by preventing child maltreatment within families and communities,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison celebrates children as our greatest resource and as future community leaders of tomorrow, and,

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Mayor and Madison Common Council proclaim the month of April 2018 as CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH in the City of Madison.
