Title
Commending, honoring and expressing appreciation to Wendy Barton upon her retirement from the City of Madison after nearly 40 years of outstanding service.
Body
WHEREAS, Wendy E. Barton first began her service at the City of Madison on June 26, 1978 as an hourly Library Assistant, later being promoted to Information Specialist and then Clerk 2 before leaving the library in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Wendy resumed her service at the City of Madison on November 26, 1990, as an hourly Clerk Typist and her permanent career on March 15, 1992, as a Clerk Typist 2; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Wendy was promoted to the position Central Support Clerk and finally to Administrative Support Clerk 2 and is a member of the Administrative Team (aka “The A-Team”) in the Finance Department; and
WHEREAS, Wendy has supported nearly every department in the City, from the Fire Department to Public Health to the City Clerk’s office, performing duties ranging from filing, to data entry, to being a main player in the scheduling and payroll of the more than 3000 elections officials; and
WHEREAS, Wendy’s service skills, her extensive knowledge, and ability to access the most esoteric information about City government has led her to be called “The Wendypedia” by her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Wendy has supported city programs such as “Bring Your Daughter to Work Day” by bringing her daughters Bonnie, Julie and Melanie to participate, and has for many years assisted with the flu clinics to help the City of Madison employees stay healthy; and
WHEREAS, Wendy has consistently shown the highest degree of professionalism and creativity while helping residents of Madison exercise their right to vote, including dressing as a suffragette for FreakFest in 2011; and
WHEREAS, in her 40 years of service (despite only being 16 ½), Wendy has assisted tens of thousands of citizens, whether by phone or in person, ensuring that each person received correct inf...
