Commending and honoring Cathy Dethmers on her dedication, leadership and success bringing live music to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Cathy Dethmers started working at the legendary O’Cayz Corral, known as the CBGB’s of the Midwest, while still in college in the early 1990’s; and
WHEREAS, Cathy took over ownership of the famed venue in 1994, reopening O’Cayz Corral after it had closed earlier that year; and
WHEREAS, Cathy owned and operated O’Cayz Corral from 1994 until the club sadly burned to the ground on New Year’s Day 2001 due to a fire that started in the bar next door; and
WHEREAS, Cathy worked diligently to find a new venue location for three and a half years before opening High Noon Saloon at 701 E. Washington Avenue on May 5, 2004; and
WHEREAS, High Noon Saloon was launched as a premier stage for live music and has repeatedly and routinely been recognized as Madison’s favorite live music venue; and
WHEREAS, under Cathy’s leadership, High Noon Saloon has hosted over 15,000 acts, 6,500 shows, and hundreds of weddings, private, and community events; and
WHEREAS, Cathy is - and will continue to be - viewed as a hero to musicians, fans, artists, the entire Madison music scene, and the Madison community as a whole for her quarter century of hard work and tireless service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison commends Cathy Dethmers for her decades of dedication to the Madison music scene and her leadership to the industry, her venue, and the community, and extends its sincere wishes for her continued success in all of her future endeavors.
