Title

Commending Al Martin for his contributions to the City of Madison’s Planning Division on the occasion of his retirement from public service.

Body

WHEREAS, Al Martin was hired by the City of Madison on December 12, 1983 by the Assessor as an Assessment Aide and joined the Planning Division in May of 1985 as a Code Enforcement Officer; and,

 

WHEREAS, Al served as the Urban Design Commission Secretary from 1986 to 1989, served as a city planner for the next 14 years, and then signed up in 2003 for a second stint in his current role as Urban Design Commission Secretary; and,

WHEREAS, Al has been active in shaping Madison through his involvement in the site design and architectural details of countless developments throughout the city while staffing over 300 meetings of the Urban Design Commission; and,

WHEREAS, Al has been a role model to many of his colleagues in his professionalism but always keeping a sense of humor; and,

 

WHEREAS, Al’s colleagues always look forward to his special dishes -especially his “drummies” - and now that he is retiring he might finally share his secret recipe for these; and,

WHEREAS, Al is well known for being tough but fair and has constantly demonstrated that “details matter”, even when that might not be the most convenient path; and,

 

WHEREAS, Al has devoted his 34 year career with the City by ensuring that Madison is, and will continue to be, a great city for current and future residents; and

 

WHEREAS, Al’s talents as a planner and landscape architect have long been respected by his colleagues, private sector designers, members of the Urban Design Commission, elected officials-- and most importantly, by the public with whom he has worked,


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the residents, the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deep appreciation to Al Martin for his significant contributions throughout his career with the City of Madison.
