Congratulating Elizabeth Torres for being selected as the 2016 Miss Viva México and ambassador of Mexican culture and heritage.

Body

WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated in the United States from September 15 to October 15; and

 

WHEREAS, as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, WLMV - La Movida 1480AM, a member radio station of Madison’s Mid-West Family Broadcasting group, will celebrate the fifteenth annual Festival Viva México 2016 on Sunday, September 18, 2016; and

 

WHEREAS, it has become a tradition to select an outstanding young woman to represent the Mexican culture and heritage by being crowned as Miss Viva México; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Torres was born in Madison, Wisconsin; is currently a student with a Major in Sociology and Minor in Immigrant Families and Language Development at UW-Whitewater and works at Summit Credit Union as Member Services Teller; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout 2016-2017, she will participate in events and activities such as Dane County Fair, Latino Health Fair, and fundraisers to serve as a role model to other Latina youth in our community; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Torres represents the perseverance, beauty and dreams of our Latina youth;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council congratulate Elizabeth Torres for being selected as the 2016 Miss Viva México and ambassador of Mexican culture and heritage.
