Honoring and recognizing the excellence of Madison Water Utility emergency repair staff  during extreme weather conditions (Citywide).
 
Body
Preamble
This resolution recognizes the dedication, excellence, and hard work of the men and women of the Madison Water Utility who carry out and support emergency repairs on our water system during the 2013-2014 winter season.
 
WHEREAS, this winter has a frost line at depths of as much as six feet, causing frozen service laterals, main breaks, and associated problems; and
 
WHEREAS, in January, Madison Water Utility responded to the highest number of frozen water meter calls for any month in at least the last decade; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2013, Madison Water Utility crews repaired 306 water main breaks, the highest number of main breaks since the Utility began keeping records in 1980; and
 
WHEREAS, Madison Water Utility employees are on call 24 hours a day and have responded to hundreds of water main break and frozen service calls since January 2014, the most that the Water Utility has experienced in over thirty-five years;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Water Utility Board, Mayor, and Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby honor and recognize the employees of the Madison Water Utility for their service and dedication in the winter of 2013-2014.
