Body
WHEREAS, roller derby is a sport that combines adrenaline and estrogen, mascara and mayhem, sass and strength; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Mad Rollin' Dolls, Madison's premiere derby league, first laced up their skates for the public in late 2004 and began its first full season in 2005 and is now one of the longest operating roller derby teams in the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, this group of dynamic skaters has been providing their fans with a sport that features pure athleticism with a punch of campy fun for ten years; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Mad Rollin' Dolls organization is a grassroots effort run by an all-volunteer group of skaters and non-skaters who assist in everything from practices and bouts to merchandise and community involvement; and,
 
WHEREAS, the league gives back to the community in as many ways as possible by supporting charities such as Safe Harbor, Capital K9's, Alzheimer's Association of South Central Wisconsin, Open Arts Studio, Badger Childhood Cancer Network, Madison 4 Lakes Sierra Club, Alliance for Animals and over 60 other charities in Madison and Dane County; and,
 
WHEREAS, the women who skate with Mad Rollin' Dolls come from all walks of life - lawyers, police officers, librarians, baristas, artists, musicians, mothers, and more and who represent a wide variety of ages, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds,
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Mayor Paul Soglin and the Madison Common Council proclaim December 7, 2013 as "Mad Rollin Dolls Roller Derby Day" and congratulate the derby team members and their supporters on their 10th Anniversary.
