Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Thai Pavilion and Garden at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
Body
WHEREAS, Olbrich Botanical Gardens Thai Pavilion and Garden opened to the public on June 15, 2002; and

WHEREAS, there is a long history of Thai students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and

WHEREAS, the UW-Madison has one of the largest Thai student populations of any U.S. college or university; and

WHEREAS, the UW-Madison Thai graduates are prominent civic and business leaders in Thailand; and

WHEREAS, the gift of the Thai Pavilion from the Thai Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association-Thailand reflects the Thai alumni’s loyalty to the university; and

WHEREAS, the pavilion was a gift from the Thai government and the Thai Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association to the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and

WHEREAS, the UW-Madison gifted the pavilion to the City of Madison, which owns and operates Olbrich Gardens as a mostly free public garden; and

WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Wisconsin Alumni Association, the City of Madison and Olbrich Botanical Society worked together to place the Thai Pavilion at Olbrich Botanical Gardens; and

WHEREAS, the staff at Olbrich Botanical Gardens created a beautiful Midwestern tropical garden as a setting for the Thai Pavilion; and

WHEREAS, ten years have passed since the grand opening of the Thai Pavilion and Garden; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday, September 23, 2012, Olbrich Botanical Gardens will celebrate Thai Fest in honor of Thai culture and the 10th anniversary of the Thai Pavilion and Garden, featuring music, dancing and food;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council congratulate the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Wisconsin Alumni Association and its Thai Chapter, Madison Parks and Olbrich Botanical Society for working together to maintain a unique Midwestern tropical landscape surrounding one of only a few Ro...
