Honoring and expressing the City of Madison's gratefulness to Mr. Jimmy Van Gemert and Mr. Robert Glebs for providing first aid and emergency care to Ms. Susan Elias.
Body
WHEREAS, our bedrock in the City of Madison is our civic-minded and responsible citizens; and,

WHEREAS, when the actions of those citizens rises to the level of heroism, when they act quickly and selflessly to help another, the Common Council has the privilege to honor and thank them in the name of all the residents of our city; and,

WHEREAS, on the evening of April 26, 2012, Mr. Jimmy Van Gemert, 3702 Council Crest, and Mr. Robert Glebs, 2604 Arbor Dr, Apt 120, quickly came to the aid of Ms. Susan Elias when she was stuck by a car as she attempted to walk across Monroe Street at Knickerbocker Street; and,

WHEREAS, as Ms. Elias lay on Monroe Street, bleeding and unconscious, Mr. Van Gemert and Mr. Glebs administered CPR until they determined Ms Elias was breathing on her own, then Mr. Van Gemert asked an unidentified individual on the sidewalk, who removed his shirt and gave it to Mr Van Gemert, who then placed it under Ms. Elias's head in an effort to stop the bleeding; and,

WHEREAS, Madison Police Captain Joe Balles and Madison Fire Rescue soon arrived on the scene and Ms. Elias was conveyed to the UW Trauma Center where she regained consciousness, received stitches for her head injuries, and after an overnight stay, was released from the hospital and returned to work at the Woodland Montessori School approximately ten days later,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the residents of the City of Madison are forever grateful to Mr. Jimmy Van Gemert and Mr. Robert Glebs for their quick actions that night to provide first aid and emergency care to Ms. Susan Elias. If not for their quick thinking and immediate actions, the injuries sustained that night may have been much worse and extended her recovery. Ms. Elias was able to return to the classroom ...
