Title
Proclaiming October 2011 as “Comprehensive Women's Health Month” in the City of Madison and recognizing that women in our city deserve the best healthcare available.
Body
WHEREAS, more than 118,000 women and girls live in the City of Madison; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison recognizes the unique health needs of women in all phases of their lives; and,
WHEREAS, access to comprehensive reproductive health care-including pap smears, mammograms, treatment for sexually-transmitted infections, and birth control-is critical to the overall well-being of women and their families; and,
WHEREAS, women's health care providers have saved countless lives by preventing and treating life-threatening diseases including breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers, and HIV-AIDS; and,
WHEREAS, family planning is recognized by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as one of the top ten public health achievements of the 20th century; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Madison values the many licensed health care professionals who provide this basic care in a compassionate setting, at times under threat of violence; and,
WHEREAS, a resolution has been offered by members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin proclaiming October 2011 as “Women’s Health Month” across the State of Wisconsin,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council strongly supports comprehensive women's health care providers in their unique, positive contributions to the individual lives of women, men, and children - both before and after birth; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Common Council recognizes, commends, and is grateful for the arduous, compassionate and sometimes dangerous work of the staff and volunteers in comprehensive women's health centers in the City of Madison and across Wisconsin and the United States; and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Common Council proclaims October 2011 as “Comprehensive Women's Health Month...
