Proclaiming October 14, 2011, as Wisconsin Alumni Association Day in the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Alumni Association was founded in 1861 to promote the interests of the University of Wisconsin, to improve connections between alumni, and to advance higher education; and

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Alumni Association supports the University of Wisconsin-Madison and its advancements in education, research and public service, helping to foster the discoveries, workforce and citizens that create a thriving state and capital city; and

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Alumni Association serves a global community of nearly 400,000 living alumni worldwide that includes inventors, artists, political leaders and some of the most spirited people on the planet; and

WHEREAS, Wisconsin is home to 141,000 UW-Madison alumni, including 52,100 in the Madison area, who make meaningful, positive impacts in their communities through their lives and work; and

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Alumni Association serves graduates through programs in lifelong learning, career networking, recognition and awards, international travel and award-winning publications, and the association and its chapters and affiliates have awarded more than $10 million in student scholarships since 1967; and

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Alumni Association is celebrating a century and a half of the alumni legacy throughout 2011 with commemorative programs and special events in Madison, on campus and through its chapters and contacts in approximately 100 cities around the world;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council congratulate the Wisconsin Alumni Association on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and thank the alumni, benefactors and community members who have supported the organization over the past 150 years.
