Title
Commending the Madison Memorial Spartan Boys Swimming and Diving Team on winning the 2009 State WIAA Division 1 Title.
Body
WHEREAS, the James Madison Memorial High School Spartans Boys Swimming and Diving Team capped off an undefeated 2008-09 season by capturing the school's 10th WIAA Division 1 State Title and its fourth state title in five years; and,
WHEREAS, in one of the most competitive battles for team titles in recent memory, the Spartans won as the result of a team effort with points from 10 Spartan swimmers and divers; and,
WHEREAS, Michael Drives had an outstanding individual effort by besting two state records, in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, reclaiming the 200-yard freestyle record for the Spartans in a record-setting time of 1 minute, 38.02 seconds; and,
WHEREAS, in their first year with the Spartans, Coach Paul Eckerle, a former Spartan state champion in his own right, and his assistant coach, Derek Scheer, ably lead the team to the championship; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Madison Common Council recognizes the dedicated support of the parents, student body and all Spartan fans during the championship season,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Madison Common Council hereby commend Coach Paul Eckerle, Coach Scheer, and the entire Spartan Boys Swimming and Diving Team on their successful season and Division 1 State Championship.
