The proposed resolution approves the Madison Arts Commission’s recommended funding awards for the 2018 Art in Public Places and authorizes payment of $75,000 for the awarded projects. The Municipal Art Fund capital project has sufficient funding for the recommended awards. No additional City appropriation is required.

Seeking Common Council approval of the 2018 Art in Public Places funding awards as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted Resolution, I.D. 30476 on March 19, 2002 adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and
WHEREAS the Public Art Framework and Field Guide recommends the Madison Arts Commission create opportunities for community partnerships for Art in City-Building; and
WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission, whose mission it is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison’s citizens, established the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program so that non-profit arts organizations, Neighborhood groups, and City Agencies could receive technical assistance and funding to assist them with permanent public art and placemaking projects; and
WHEREAS, funding for these project are identified as potential expenditures in the Municipal Art Fund in the 2018 Capital Budget; and
WHEREAS, on May 4, 2018 the Madison Arts Commission issued a call for proposals inviting non-profit organizations and neighborhood groups to submit letters of interest in the AIPP program; and
WHEREAS, By the May 31, 2018 application deadline the Madison Arts Commission received five applications for Art in Public Places projects funding, totaling $75,000 in requests; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art Standing Committee of the Madison Arts Commission met on Monday, June 4, 2018 to evaluate the initial applications for the 2018 grant period; and
