Honoring the Life and Work of Judy Wilcox.
Body
WHEREAS, Judy Wilcox devoted her life to helping others and had an immeasurable, positive impact in the City of Madison and Dane County, especially in advancing affordable housing and addressing mental health needs, and;
WHEREAS, Judy was the first woman elected to the Stoughton City Council and was a member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, where she chaired the Health and Human Needs Committee, and;
WHEREAS, Judy served the public in many capacities, including Chair of the Dane County Housing Authority, Chair of the Dane County Board of Health, member of the Dane County Human Services Board, member of the Henry Vilas Zoo Commission, and member of the Board of Directors of Journey Mental Health, and;
WHEREAS, Judy served in the Peace Corps from 1987 to 1989, then worked many years for the State of Wisconsin addressing housing needs for homeless people, and;
WHEREAS, In 2001, the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin awarded Judy the Sterling Rose Award for her work in addressing housing issues faced by individuals with HIV and AIDS, and;
WHEREAS, The YWCA named her a Woman of Distinction in 2001, and;
WHEREAS, Judy was always optimistic and cheerful, even up to the time she passed away on December 31, 2016, at age 76,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison extends its condolences to Judy’s family and friends and invites all Madisonians to celebrate and honor the life and work of Judy Wilcox.
