Recognizing June 26, 2011, as The Capital City Hues Day in Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison recognizes its diversity as one of its greatest strengths and appreciates the culture and contributions of our various communities of color, all of whom add to the greatness of our City; and
WHEREAS, The Capital City Hues was founded in 2006 as a multicultural newspaper owned, written and read by people of color and people in the Madison area interested in race relations and multiculturalism; and
WHEREAS, The Capital City Hues celebrates Madison's diversity and gives a positive voice to people who may not be adequately represented in the mainstream media; and
WHEREAS, The Capital City Hues is dedicated to helping the Madison area evolve into a more cosmopolitan community where all people are free socially, politically and culturally to pursue life, liberty and happiness; and
WHEREAS, The Capital City Hues is celebrating its five year anniversary with The Hues Alive at Five: Celebrating Our Communities of Culture on the 200 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard on Sunday, June 26, 2011, to reflect Dr. King's Beloved Community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council hereby recognize June 26, 2011, as The Capital City Hues Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council congratulate the communities of color represented in The Capital City Hues and their significant contributions to the City of Madison and its high quality of life.
