To Declare the Week of April 22 through April 28 ARBOR WEEK 2012 and to commemorate the City of Madison's 23rd anniversary as a Tree City USA

ARBOR WEEK PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, trees in our city will reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, sequester excess carbon, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Madison has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for 23 consecutive years and desires to continue its tree planting ways; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, by the City of Madison that April 22 thru 28 is Arbor Week 2012 in the City of Madison and all residents are urged to protect our trees and woodlands, to support our urban forestry program, and to plant trees to promote the well-being of present and future generations.
