Commending Fire Chief Debra H. Amesqua on her retirement from the City of Madison after over 16 years of service
Body
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Debra H. Amesqua started with the Madison Fire Department on January 15, 1996 and will retire on January 3, 2012 after more than 16 years of dedicated service to our community; and
WHEREAS, she was the tenth career chief to lead the Madison Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, she was the first woman in the history of the department to lead the Madison Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, at the time of her appointment she was one of only seven women in the country to lead a fire department;and
WHEREAS, she selected and recommended the hire of 289 members of the Madison Fire Department, and
WHEREAS, she selected and recommended the promotion of 210 members of the Madison Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, she directed the greatest growth period in the history of the department which included the opening of two new fire stations, the addition of two Engine Companies, two Medic ambulance units and one Ladder Company; and
WHEREAS, she led the department and worked to develop the very successful labor/management relations that the department experiences today; and
WHEREAS, she was the first president of the Women Chief Fire Officers Association in 2004-05; and
WHEREAS, she holds the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) designation awarded by the National Fire Academy; and
WHEREAS, she holds the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation as witnessed by her peers and awarded by the fire service Commission on Professional Credentialing; and
WHEREAS, she is nationally recognized for her work on senior-level management training for fire service women and breaking down barriers for people of color; and
WHEREAS, she was selected FIRE CHIEF magazine's “2011 Career Fire Chief of the Year Award Winner" to honor longtime dedication and leadership in the fire and emergency services by the FIRE CHIEF's magazine Edito...
