Title
Commending the Junior League of Madison on their 25th Anniversary and proclaiming January 25, 2014 as "Junior League of Madison Day".
Body
WHEREAS, the Junior Service League of Greater Madison was formed in 1988 to begin accreditation as The Junior League of Madison to provide volunteer services and membership development programs to women and children in the Madison area; and,
WHEREAS, the Junior League hosted 17 Kitchen Tours as its signature fundraiser beginning in 1990 to raise money for programs to address area needs; and,
WHEREAS, each year, volunteers joined and participated in comprehensive annual training programs enabling them to provide effective service and leadership; and,
WHEREAS, the Junior League of Madison today provides 291 volunteers in partnership with other organizations throughout Madison and Dane County; and,
WHEREAS, the Junior League of Madison's signature cookbook, Mad About Food was proclaimed the Official Cookbook of Madison in 2005; and,
WHEREAS, the Junior League of Madison has sponsored over 50 community programs such as Tapes for Tots, All Dressed Up and Safe Kids Coalition; and,
WHEREAS, Junior League is part of an international organization of over 293 Junior Leagues all over the world with 155,000 members in four countries.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin does hereby proclaim January 25, 2014 as, "Junior League of Madison Day" and supports Junior League of Madison in continuing the important work of improving the quality of life in our community through initiatives benefiting the health and well-being of women and children.
