Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Timothy V. Bruer for his dedicated service to the constituents in District 14 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Timothy V. Bruer was elected in a special election to the Madison Common Council on May 1, 1984 and confirmed on May 15, 1984; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Bruer served as Common Council President in 1996,1998, 2008 and 2009 and also served as Common Council President Pro Tem in 1995 and 2007; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Bruer served on the following committees: Alcohol License Review Committee, Board of Estimates, Common Council Organizational Committee, Community Development Authority, Community Development Block Grant Committee, Equal Opportunities Commission, Housing Merger Planning Ad Ho Committee, Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Discourse Award Committee, MLKJ Award Committee, Overture Ad Hoc Committee, Board of Public Health, Board of Public Works, Reapportionment & Redistricting Ad Hoc Committee, Sister City Ad Hoc Planning Committee, South Madison Ad Hoc Steering Committee, Villager Mall Master Plan Oversight Ad Hoc Committee, Water Utility Board and numerous subcommittees, work groups, ad hoc committees throughout his service on the Council ; and,
WHEREAS, during his tenure Alderperson Bruer was a tireless advocate for the 14th District and Madison’s South Side, making social and economic justice a priority; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Bruer was a leader in promoting economic development through projects that created jobs across the economic spectrum, such as the revitalization of Park Street, including the development of Villager Mall, Todd Drive transportation improvements and construction of Arbor Gate and the Edgewater redevelopment; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Bruer was instrumental in the 2010 agreement transitioning the Overture Center for the Arts to private operations while ensuring that many programs and events would be accessibl...
