Title
Commending Library Director Barbara Dimick on her retirement from the City of Madison after 36 years of service, the last 17 as Director of the Madison Public Library.
Body
WHEREAS, Library Director Barbara Dimick began her career with the Madison Public Library on August 25, 1975 and will retire on February 24, 2012 after more than 35 years of dedicated service to our community; and,
WHEREAS, she has served as the Director of the Madison Public Library since 1995; and,
WHEREAS, she was the 15th person to direct the Madison Public Library since its foundation in 1875; and,
WHEREAS, she oversaw the greatest period of growth in the history of the Madison Public Library, which included the addition of the Alicia Ashman Branch; the relocation of the Hawthorne Branch; the reconstruction and expansion of the Lakeview Branch; the refurbishment of the Meadowridge, Pinney, Monroe Street, and Hawthorne Branches; the construction of the totally new and enlarged Sequoya and Goodman South Madison Branches; the commencement of the campaign to completely renovate and modernize the Central Library and laying the groundwork for new branches at Grandview Commons, the far east and far west sides of Madison; and,
WHEREAS, she guided the library through the tumult of the rise of the digital age to its present position as a provider of traditional media, digital resources, and community programming; and,
WHEREAS, she has worked tirelessly to unite staff and the community for a shared vision of the library and what it can do for the community both today and in the future,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council express their appreciation for the services and dedication that Library Director Barbara Dimick gave to our community during her years of service and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
