Proclaiming the week of April 20th through April 26th, 2014 as Arbor Week in the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS: The first Arbor Day was celebrated in 1872 in Nebraska as a special day for planting trees; and
WHEREAS: Trees promote outdoor recreation which improves human health and well-being and reduces "Nature-Deficit Disorder" in children by encouraging more activity and connection to the natural world; and
WHEREAS, Trees are a valuable economic asset in our cities that help maintain or increase property values and attract business and new residents to our City; and
WHEREAS, Madison has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 25 consecutive years and desires to continue its tree planting ways;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City of Madison, Wisconsin, does hereby proclaim the week of April 20th through April 26th, 2014 as ARBOR WEEK in the City of Madison, and urges everyone able to observe this week to plant trees so that future generations can continue to enjoy a green and healthy community.
