Proclaiming May 1-7, 2011 as Public Service Recognition Week in the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS,      residents of the City of Madison are served every single day by public employees at the federal, state, county, and city levels; and
 
WHEREAS,      these unsung heroes do the work that keeps our nation running; and
 
WHEREAS,      many public employees, including police officers, firefighters, health care professionals, and others risk their lives each day in service to the residents of the City of Madison; and      
 
WHEREAS,      public employees include secretaries, clerks, nurses, public health workers, inspectors, laborers, information technicians, foresters, assessors, attorneys, parks and recreation crews, planners, engineers, social workers, police officers, firefighters, parking monitors, streets and sanitation crews, and countless other occupations that day in and day out provide diverse services with efficiency and integrity as demanded by the residents of Madison of their government; and
 
WHEREAS,        without these public employees at every level, continuity would be impossible in a democracy that regularly changes its leaders and elected officials;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin proclaim May 1-7, 2011, as
 
PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK
 
in the City of Madison in thanks and appreciation for the accomplishments, contributions, and dedicated service of all City employees; and,
 
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that all citizens are encouraged to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of government employees at all levels - federal, state, county and city.
