Commending Bradley J. Murphy for his leadership to the City of Madison's planning program on the occasion of his retirement from public service.
Body
WHEREAS, Bradley J. Murphy was hired by the City of Madison on August 7, 1989 as the Director of the Planning Unit within the Planning and Development Department; and
 
WHEREAS, For over 22 years, Brad dedicated himself to the City of Madison making for a great municipality for both current and future citizens to enjoy, which was recognized during his tenure as the Planning Division Director, as Madison gained national recognition as one of the most livable cities in the country; and
 
WHEREAS, Brad led planning initiatives throughout the city in situations and conditions as varied as Madison's neighborhoods, and played an instrumental role in the renaissance of the Downtown and the improvement of some of Madison's most challenged neighborhoods; and
 
WHEREAS, Brad presided over the growth of the city, which gained more than 20 square miles and 40,000 residents during his 22 years as Planning Director; and
 
WHEREAS, Brad is recognized for his skillful and diplomatic approach to highly complex and charged issues, and his leadership and management talents are respected by his staff, colleagues, City boards and commissions, Mayors and Common Councils-- and most importantly, the public whom he serves.
 
WHEREAS, Brad mastered the details and diplomacy of Madison area intergovernmental relations resulting in numerous intergovernmental agreements and constructive relationships with many area communities and professional staff; and
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council and Mayor on behalf of the people of Madison express their deep appreciation to Bradley J. Murphy for his significant contributions to shaping the City of Madison for current residents and future generations, and for his 22 years of loyal and conscientious public service to the City.
