Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Ledell Zellers for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 2 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Ledell Zellers was elected to the Madison Common Council on April 2, 2013; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers served on the Ad Hoc Landmarks Ordinance Review Committee, Capitol East District Committee, Common Council Organizational Committee, Downtown Coordinating Committee, Historic Preservation Plan Advisory Committee, Joint Southeast Campus Area Committee, Madison Food Policy Council, Pedestrian/Bicycle/Motor Vehicle Commission, Plan Commission, President's Work Group to Develop City-Wide Surveillance Equipment & Data Management Policies, Public Safety Review Committee, State Street Design Project Oversight Committee, Transit and Parking Commission, Transportation Ordinance Review Ad Hoc Committee, and the Transportation Policy and Planning Board; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers shepherded through 15 development proposals resulting in 1,326 units of housing (1,923 bedrooms), most in mixed-used buildings with commercial/office space for retail, restaurant, and office uses (for example: QTI, Google, Design Concepts and Sujeos) as well as the successful AC Hotel with the popular restaurant, Eno Vino; and,
WHEREAS, of those 15 development proposals which were built or approved after much robust work with neighborhoods and developers, only one ultimately approved development proposal was objected to by the neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers initiated a planning process for the block on which the heritage Frank Lloyd Wright Lamp House resides which resulted in a plan that will protect it for future generations; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers played a very active role in the development of the new transportation ordinance and the new Comprehensive Plan; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers balanced neighborhood delight and despair with the newly active Breese Stevens Field to reach a programming and use situation that brings fun to many, while minimizing the pain for nearby neighbors; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Zellers, working with Alders Verveer and Wood and city staff developed and passed an ordinance addressing the moped chaos that existed in the downtown; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Ledell Zellers through her hard work and dedication to her aldermanic duties has faithfully and with honor served her constituents and the City of Madison,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Ledell Zellers for her dedicated service to her constituents in District 2 and the City of Madison.
