Commending, honoring and expressing appreciation to Michael R Dailey upon his retirement from the City of Madison after 33 years of exemplary service.

Body

WHEREAS, Mike earned a BS degree from the UW Platteville in 1979; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike began employment with the City of Madison in 1984 as a Drafting Technician 1; and was promoted to Engineer 1 in 1988; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike became a Principal Engineer 1 in charge of the Engineering Division’s Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Design Section in February 4, 1990 and was later promoted to Principal Engineer 2 while continuing in that role; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike became the Assistant City Engineer in December 26, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Mike has held numerous positions in the American Public Works Association Wisconsin Chapter over 27 years including Water Resources Committee Chair, Executive Committee Secretary, and Executive Committee Director; 

 

WHEREAS, Mike was APWA Wisconsin Chapter President in 2011; and has been the Wisconsin Chapter Primary Delegate for the National APWA Leadership Committee since 2013; and,

 

WHEREAS, Under Mike’s leadership, the City of Madison Storm Water Utility was established; and,

 

WHEREAS, In 2013 Mike created a High School Internship Program for the Engineering Division which became a Citywide initiative the following year; and, 

 

WHEREAS, In 2013 Mike established on line bidding, making the City of Madison the first municipality in Wisconsin to offer an electronic bidding option for contractors bidding on public works contracts; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike’s hard work ethic and incredible ability to get difficult tasks accomplished have contributed greatly to the success of the Engineering Division and to the City of Madison as a whole; and,

 

WHEREAS, Madison’s current City Engineer will be forever grateful for the advice and assistance he has provided him over the last several years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Additional time away from the office will allow Mike more time to improve his bowling score, cheer on the Saint Louis Cardinals, and watch NCAA basketball; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike is the proud grandfather to two grandkids which he enjoys immensely with a third one on the way; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike has quiet place on a lake up north awaiting him.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council do hereby thank Michael R Dailey for his extraordinary service to the City of Madison and wish him the best upon his retirement.
