Commending, honoring, and expressing appreciation to Chuck Kamp, Metro Transit General Manager, on his retirement from the City of Madison after 13 years of exemplary service.
Body
WHEREAS, Chuck Kamp has worked in public transportation for 38 years, with service characterized by integrity and responsiveness; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has made customers’ daily rides a more positive experience by implementing passenger amenities, seating, and responsive schedule changes; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has focused on safety throughout his tenure, pursuing initiatives such as reducing electronic distractions, monitoring, safety programs and protocols; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has been an advocate for the environment, with Metro Transit being the first Wisconsin transit system to use hybrid-electric buses in 2007, and moving to electric buses with the purchase of 3 electric buses in 2020; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has fostered innovation, implementing real-time bus tracking technology which has been integrated into numerous phone apps, helping residents plan their trips; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has presided over increasing ridership, with record ridership levels of 15.2 million in 2014, and subsequent ridership levels consistently performing better than national trends; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck’s efforts led to Metro Transit being recognized as the best transit system of its size in North America by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in 2012; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck’s leadership at Metro has led to continued excellence, having been rank 5th Best Transit System in America 2019 by a consumer organization; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has presided over Metro’s transformation to a more regional Metro Transit System with additional services added in Middleton, Fitchburg, Epic Systems in Verona, the American Center and most recently Sun Prairie starting in September; and,
WHEREAS, Chuck has set Metro Transit up for success, having worked towards improving Metro’s current maintenance facility, obtaining a satellite bus facility, and implementing Bus Rapid Transit,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison express their sincere appreciation to Chuck Kamp for his years of dedicated service and congratulate him on his retirement.
