Title

Commending and thanking Tom Solyst for his dedicated service to Vera Court Neighborhood Center and the residents of Madison.​

Body

WHEREAS, Tom started in 2000 as the sole staff member of Vera Court Neighborhood Center and has devoted over 22 years to the organization; and

 

WHEREAS,  Tom served as the executive director of Vera Court Neighborhood Center, Inc., which includes Vera Court Neighborhood Center, Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center, and Latino Academy of Workforce Development; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom has since led the expansion of the organization to include a doubling in facility size, including the addition of middle and high school wing, updated computer lab, and a kitchen that has doubled in size; and

 

WHEREAS, Vera Court Neighborhood Center programming under Tom’s leadership has grown to include Girl Neighborhood Power, Life as a Boy, Youth Leadership Program, RISE Middle School, High School Leadership Program and an elementary after school program that serves 50 kids every day; and

 

WHEREAS, programs include free after school services, summer camps, services for families and 15 thousand meals a year; and

 

WHEREAS, 95 percent of the population the center serves is low-income;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Tom Solyst for his dedicated service to Vera Court Neighborhood Center and the residents of Madison.​
