Title

To authorize the temporary closure of Starkweather Creek for construction and placement of the new pedestrian bridge as part of the 2023 reconstruction of Atwood Avenue. (15th AD)

Body

WHEREAS, the 2023 reconstruction of Atwood Avenue will begin in March of 2023 and be completed in November of 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Contractor will occupy the waterway during the placement of the pedestrian bridge over the creek; and

WHEREAS, the pedestrian bridge will connect the new share-use paths constructed along Atwood Avenue; and

WHEREAS, for safety, it is necessary to place waterway markers to exclude boating in Starkweather creek from Lake Monona to the Atwood Ave; and

WHEREAS, one of the conditions for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources approval is an authorizing resolution approving such closure adopted by the local unit of government abutting the effected waters.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Madison hereby authorizes the temporary closure of Starkweather Creek for the construction and placement of the new pedestrian bridge for five (5) days between July and November of 2023, in furtherance of the safety and protection of users of the creek.
