Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution appoints Barbara Vedder to fill the vacant alder position for District 12 and to serve until the spring 2023 election. Funding for the position is available in the Common Council 2023 Adopted Operating Budget. No appropriation is required

Appointing Barbara Vedder as Alder for District 12 to serve until the Spring 2023 election.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee met on January 11, 2023, to make a recommendation on the appointment of an Alder for District 12 according to the procedures outlined in Madison General Ordinances 2.03; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee reviewed the resumes submitted of former elected officials and interviewed the applicants; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee recommends that Barbara Vedder be appointed to fill the vacated District 12 alder seat; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council shall appoint and confirm the recommended candidate, or decline to fill the seat, per MGO 2.03(7);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Barbara Vedder is hereby appointed to the position of Alder for District 12 effective immediately, to serve until an election is held in the spring of 2023 and a qualified District 12 Alder is elected and sworn-in on April 18, 2023.
