Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution appoints Matt Phair to fill the vacant alderperson position for District 20 and to serve until the spring 2023 election. Funding for the position is available in the Common Council 2022 Adopted Operating Budget and will be included in the 2023 operating budget request. No additional appropriation is required.

Appointing Matt Phair as Alderperson for District 20 to serve until the Spring 2023 election.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee met on May 25, 2022, to make a recommendation on the appointment of an Alderperson for District 20 according to the procedures outlined in Madison General Ordinances 2.03; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee reviewed the resumes submitted and interviewed the applicants; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council Executive Committee recommends that Matt Phair be appointed to fill the vacated District 20 aldermanic seat; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council shall appoint and confirm the recommended candidate, or appoint and confirm another candidate among the applicants, per MGO 2.03(4);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Matt Phair is hereby appointed to the position of Alderperson for District 20 effective immediately, to serve until an election is held in the spring of 2023 and a qualified District 20 Alderperson is elected and sworn-in on April 18, 2023.
