Commending and thanking Alder Syed Abbas for his dedicated and conscientious service during his tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.

Body

WHEREAS, Alder Syed Abbas was elected by his peers to the office of President of the Madison Common Council on April 20, 2021, for the term 2021-2022; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas met regularly with Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and Common Council Vice President Arvina Martin to discuss city issues; and

WHEREAS, during his term as Common Council President, Alder Abbas also served as chair of the Common Council Executive Committee and served on the Board of Park Commissioners, Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee, Finance Committee, Public Market Development Committee, and Warner Park Community Recreation Center Advisory Subcommittee; and

WHEREAS, under Alder Abbas' presidency, staff for the Legislative Management System Specialist and Chief of Staff positions were hired; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas created an internship program for the Common Council Office; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas created the President's Work Group on Environmental Justice and the President's Work Group on Racial Justice, Antiracism and Equity; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas served as Acting Mayor during Mayor Rhodes-Conway's absences; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas has met the demands of his additional duties with committed and dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Alder Abbas fulfilled his duties as Common Council President while ably representing and responding to his 12^th District constituents’ concerns and issues;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Common Council commend and thank Alder Syed Abbas for his dedicated and conscientious service during his tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.
