Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution approves the application and authorizes the acceptance of a $50,000 Wisconsin Public Service Commission grant and amends the 2021 Sustainability Improvements capital project to reflect the grant. The city will contribute a 10% match of $5,600 in city staff time for the Sustainability Program Coordinator, Building Services Project Manager, and Engineering and Streets Department staff. The match will be absorbed with existing resources. There is no impact on the levy.

WHEREAS, in 2021 the City of Madison along with nonprofit partner SlipStream identified a grant opportunity through the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation (PSC-OEI) Critical Infrastructure Microgrid and Community Resilience Center Pilot Grant Program; and,

WHEREAS, City of Madison Engineering - Facilities Management identified two adjacent city-owned facilities as prime candidates for a microgrid feasibility study; and,

WHEREAS, a microgrid study would offer valuable information to implement technologies such as battery storage that would make the City more resilient; and,

WHEREAS, in partnership with Slipstream, the City applied for the PSC-OEI grant in August 2021; and,

WHEREAS, in October 2021 the PSC-OEI awarded the City of Madison a grant in the amount of $50,000 for the project “Feasibility Study for a Microgrid at 1600 Emil St and 1501 W Badger”; and,
