The proposed resolution authorizes the application and acceptance of three grant awards for the Police Department: a FY2020 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ($101,346), a Project Safe Neighborhoods grant award from the Wisconsin Department of Justice ($16,271), and a Project Safe Neighborhoods sub-award grant award from the Dane County Narcotics Task Force for up to $25,000. The Police Department is authorized to use the funding for the purposes of the grants, including modifications upon appropriate approvals from the grantor and any grant funds not expended as of December 31, 2021, will be carried forward until fully utilized.
There is no matching requirement and no City levy funding is required.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice through the Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance has designated the City of Madison to receive a FY2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award; and,

WHEREAS, the JAG program supports law enforcement, prosecution, indigent defense, courts, crime prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, planning, evaluation, technology improvement, and crime victim and witness initiatives and mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs, including behavioral programs and crisis intervention teams; and,

WHEREAS, the terms of the grant require that Dane County and the City of Madison submit a joint application under one ...
