Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the Parks Division to seek grant funding opportunities through the Dane County Parks’ PARC & Ride Grant Program for the proposed Cannonball Path Shred to School project. The project is proposed in the Parks Division’s 2022 Capital Budget request, Park Land Improvements program (MUNIS 17421). The total estimated budget for the project is $125,000. Per the grant, Dane County would match the City of Madison’s financial contribution to the project by up to 50% of the total project cost, or $62,500.

Body
WHEREAS, the 2018-2023 Park and Open Space Plan calls for the development of additional off road bike amenities throughout the Parks system; and
WHEREAS, In 2020 the Parks Division completed the Madison Bicycle Adventure Trail (MadBAT) planning project which systematically identified locations throughout the city where bike amenities could be placed in such a way to most effectively benefit the community; and
WHEREAS, Aldo Leopold Park and adjacent City-owned right-of-way was selected, based on its location, space available, and input from youth attending Leopold Elementary, to incorporate facilities consistent with the concept plan for recreational bike facilities, which will consist of features such as a bike playground, pump track, wood and natural surface trail features, and bike optimized single track; and
WHEREAS, in cooperation with City of Madison Engineering, the Parks Division has the proposed Cannonball Path Shred to School project identified in the Parks Division’s 2022 Capital Budget request, to be constructed in the right-of-way adjacent to Aldo Leopold Park and the Cannonball Path; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that it is in the public interest ...
