Proclaiming June 18-25, 2021, as Madison Days of Reflection

Body

WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council values and recognizes that the past year has been like none other; and

WHEREAS, none of us has been untouched by the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and widespread systemic injustice and violence toward  Black, Indigenous and People of Color; and

WHEREAS, this year has taken its toll on our collective spirit in ways we have yet to truly acknowledge; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council invites all residents of Madison to pause and reflect on our collective trauma(s); and

WHEREAS, the call for a day of reflection on the trauma of the last year was initiated by participants in the City of Madison's Neighborhood Resource Teams;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison Common Council and Mayor proclaim June 18 through June 25, 2021, to be Days of Reflection in the City of Madison to acknowledge the immeasurable impact of the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and racial injustice on this community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the hope of the Common Council that people, organizations, and businesses across Madison choose to intentionally mark the week with an event or activity of their choice, be willing to capture and share that event or activity (#MadisonDaneDaysofReflection).

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby gratefully thanks everyone who chose to pause, to reflect, and therefore to honor, all that has been experienced by the twin pandemics.
