The Madison Arts Commission received 68 applications, totaling $136,436 in requests. The commission recommends funding 68 projects totaling $97,050. The Planning Division’s 2020 Adopted Operating Budget includes $107,500 to fund such grants recommended by the Madison Arts Commission. No additional City appropriation is required.

WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission has the authority, by ordinance, to annually recommend arts grants for approval by the Common Council; and,

WHEREAS, By the March 15 application deadline the Madison Arts Commission received 68 applications for arts projects funding, totaling $136,436 in requests, reflecting a need for financial support that the Arts Commission is unable to meet at its current funding level; and,

WHEREAS, the applications were distributed to members of the Madison Arts Commission who carefully evaluated the proposals based on previously published guidelines and turned in scores to the Madison Arts Program Administrator by April 20, 2020; and,

WHEREAS, Planning Division staff compiled those scores and comments and ranked the applications accordingly; and,
