The proposed resolution authorizes an amendment to the existing contract #7833 with MSA Professional Services for additional study and design activities for the Southwest Hawks Landing Flood Mitigation project. The estimated cost to amend the contract for additional services is $37,777.13. The total contract amount after the amendment would be $226,627.13. Funding is available in the 2020 Adopted Capital Budget for the Stormwater Utility in the Citywide Flood Mitigation major (11857-84-174).

WHEREAS, The City of Madison has previously issued a Purchase Order to MSA Professional Services for survey of the Hawks Landing West Ponds, a hydrologic study of the part of Hawks Landing that drains to Lower Badger Mill Creek watershed, and a design (with a formal construction drawing and specifications package) for the improvement of storm infrastructure at the corner of Hidden Hill Drive and Shadow Wood Drive; and

WHEREAS, Further survey and engineering work is necessary to adjust the design at Hidden Hill Drive and Shadow Wood Drive to improve the hydraulics and protect adjacent landowners during large events; and

WHEREAS, Further engineering work will be required on Red Tail Drive, in the farm field north of Hill Creek Drive and through Hill Creek Park to finalize design and develop formal engineering plans and specifications for a system to mitigate flooding along Hill Creek Drive; and

WHEREAS, MSA Professional Services has worked with City Engineering previously on flood mitigation, including surveying and design work, at the Hawks Landing development; and
