Title
Authorizing and supporting an application to WisDOT for Federal funding under the 2020-2024 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). (Various ADs)
Body
This resolution provides the required support of the projects noted and provides authorization to apply for funds under the WisDOT Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
The City of Madison endeavors to provide its citizens with a robust, sustainable, multi-modal transportation system, including a major emphasis on bicycling and walking as viable and desirable modes of travel. The City has made major investments in bicycling and walking infrastructure and this priority is reflected in current budgets. Many of the City’s important existing bike-related infrastructure projects were successfully completed with Federal Transportation Enhancements (TE) funding participation in partnership with WisDOT, and the City continues to seek Federal funding for planned major bicycle or pedestrian infrastructure projects.
This application will include four (4) proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects, and these projects will prioritized on the application.
1. Troy Dr. pedestrian and bicycle improvements, included replacement of the pedestrian underpass of the railroad crossing.
2. Extension of the Cannonball Path to connect to the Wingra Path.
3. Autumn Ridge Path - shared use path between Stein Ave. and STH 30 (east of Stoughton Rd. and west of Swanton Rd.)
4. W. Main St. bike boulevard improvements and E. Main St. and S. Blount St. bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED:
1. That the Engineering Division and Department of Transportation are authorized to submit an application for Federal funds under the 2020-2024 WisDOT Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
2. That the Mayor and Common Council fully support the projects included in the TAP application .
