The proposed resolution authorizes an amendment to an existing agreement between the Madison Water Utility and MG&E for the addition of AMI meter reading equipment and radio components to MG&E poles. The Water Utility has an existing budget of $2,000 for the equipment in the adopted 2019 operating budget.

Title
Authorizing an amendment to a pole attachment agreement with Madison Gas & Electric Company for Water Utility to attach both AMI meter reading equipment and other radios to MGE poles.
Body
WHEREAS, Resolution File No. 26416 adopted on June 12, 2012 authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to sign agreements with Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) for the Water Utility to attach wireless communication equipment for the remote water meter reading system (AMI system), and this resolution was very specific to water meter reading equipment; and
WHEREAS, on July 9, 2012, the City signed an agreement with MGE for the same, which includes an annual pole rental fee of $4.60 per pole paid by the City to MGE for each pole placement and a monthly energy charge of $1.09 for any attachment that requires electric service from MGE; and
WHEREAS, the City now has a need to mount certain Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) radio equipment on a number of MGE poles and desires to amend the 2012 agreement to add SCADA and other radio equipment to the list of devices that can be mounted on an MGE pole under that agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Mayor, City Clerk, and/or Water Utility General Manager are authorized to sign an amendment to the July 9, 2012 pole attachment agreement with Madison Gas and Electric Company to add other radio equipment to the list of attachments that the City may attach to an MGE pole.
