Title
Establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Madison, Wisconsin, United States and the City of Kanifing, Gambia, Africa.
Body
WHEREAS the cities of Kanifing and Madison share many similarities and desire to develop friendly relations and cooperate in several areas of mutual interest; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of both cities work to build, develop and sustain strong global relations; and,
WHEREAS, friendship unites people of all ages and backgrounds and thereby, culturally enriches the lives of citizens of both cities; and,
WHEREAS the exchange will empower its citizens and communities to conduct long and short term projects and initiatives for the mutual benefit of all; and,
WHEREAS, the Madison City Council believes that the proposed sister city relationship between the City of Madison, Wisconsin USA and the city of Kanifing, the Gambia, West Africa will promote and facilitate a greater understanding of the cultural, economic and educational ideals of the two communities and their citizenry,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council establishes a sister city relationship between the City of Madison in Wisconsin in the USA and the city of Kanifing, in the Gambia, West Africa and authorizes the Mayor to execute a sister city Agreement to establish that relationship.
