Fiscal Note
The City will receive $130,000 from WI DOT BOTS for the Speed Enforcement grant, of which $65,000 will be passed through to Dane County. The City will also receive $4,000 from WI DOT BOT for the Drive Sober grant. And the City will receive $60,000 from Dane County for the Seatbelt Enforcement grant. The net new funds for the City from these grants is $129,000.

The City's match requirement of $28,500 $32,250 (25 percent) will be met using funds included in the Police Department's operating budget to pay the fringe benefit costs associated with the overtime and administrative time funded by the grant.

WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations; and

WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered the Madison Police Department $100,000 for speed enforcement ($50,000 for Dane County Sheriff’s Office pass-through), $60,000 seatbelt enforcement (pass-through funding from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office) and $4,000 for traffic speed enforcement equipment; and

WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered the Madison Police Department the following grants: Speed Enforcement - $60,000 for overtime, $5,000 for equipment, and $65,000 pass-through to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office; Drive Sober - $4,000 for equipment; and Seatbelt Enforcement pass-through from Dane County - $60,000 for overtime; and

WHEREAS, this initiative will enable safer conditions for motorists and others by deploying officers for enhanced enforcement of traffic laws; and
