Fiscal Note
This grant awards $25,000 to the Library, which will be matched by $25,000 from the Madison Public Library Foundation. The Library will include expenditures and revenues associated with this grant in their 2014 operating budget request.

WHEREAS, fueled by the energy of a new Central Library opening in September of 2013, the Madison Public Library (MPL) developed a new maker-focused program model for all ages called, “The Bubbler”; and,

WHEREAS, “The Bubbler” is a free and accessible public program that facilitates the sharing of skills and tools of local artists, designers, craftspeople, and technology experts with participants attending a rotation of hands-on, pop-up workshops; and,

WHEREAS, “The Bubbler” is an art, design, and technology series that will accommodate diverse projects and interests at Madison’s nine libraries and other community locations such as schools and senior centers; and,

WHEREAS, the goal of “The Bubbler” will be for participants to create a work or product, and to leave the library with a new skill and a civic engagement experience centered around the process of making; and,

WHEREAS, “The Bubbler” will reach a broad segment of the community, especially those populations that might not otherwise have access to the tools, opportunities, and instruction provided through this innovative program; and,

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission, the Madison Public Library, and the Madison Public Library Foundation collaborated on submitting an application for an Our Town Grant to the National Endowment for the Arts to help fund “The Bubbler” on January 14, 2013; and,
