This grant will be accounted for in a segregated fund (SG18). The City is required to provide a 25% soft match requirement, which will be met by regular personnel time to train and supervise the two hourly employees. No additional City funding is required.

Authorizing the Mayor and Chief of Police to accept a grant totaling $16,634 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for continuing the 2012-2013 Pedestrian/Bicycle Ambassador Program.
Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations; and,
WHEREAS, earlier this year WI DOT-BOTS awarded $9,300 to the City of Madison to specifically improve traffic safety by educating pedestrians and bicyclists as to State Law and Municipal Ordinance that regulates the movement of pedestrians and bicyclists within the City of Madison; and,
WHEREAS, WI DOT-BOTS has awarded the City of Madison an additional $16,634 for continued pedestrian and bicycle traffic safety education; and,
WHEREAS, the grant funds enable the Police Department to coordinate additional efforts to provide community traffic safety outreach and education that would otherwise not be provided.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept the traffic safety grant totaling $16,634 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Police Department is authorized to use these funds for part-time hourly Pedestrian/Bicycle Ambassador employees to educate pedestrians and bicyclists as to best traffic safety practices and applicable laws that govern City thoroughfares.
