This grant will be accounted for in a segregated fund (SG18). The City is required to provide a 25% soft match requirement, which will be met by the regular personnel time to train and supervise the two hourly employees. No additional City funding is required.

Authorizing the Mayor and Chief of Police to accept a grant totaling $9,300 from Wisconsin Department of Transportation for a 2012 Pedestrian/Bicycle Ambassador Pilot Program
Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-BOTS (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations and,
WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered a total of $9,300 specifically to improve traffic safety by educating pedestrians and bicyclists as to State Law and Municipal Ordinance that regulates the movement of pedestrians and bicyclists within the City of Madison.
WHEREAS, a maximum of $9,300 will be spent from the Wisconsin Safety Enforcement Grant for the purpose of traffic safety education and,
WHEREAS, the WI DOT-BOTS has provided traffic safety grant funding to the City of Madison for the past several years and,
WHEREAS, the grant funds enable the Police Department to coordinate additional efforts to provide community traffic safety outreach and education that would otherwise not be provided; and,
WHEREAS, the grant funding will enable the Police Department to hire two part-time Pedestrian/Bicycle Ambassador employees to educate the public about bicycle and pedestrian safety best practices.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Chief of Police are authorized to accept the traffic safety grants totaling $9,300 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Police Department is authorized to use these funds to hire two part-time hourly Pedestrian/Bicycle Ambassador employees to educate pedestrians and bicyclists as to best traffic safety practices and applicable laws that govern City thoroughfares. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Finance Department and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
